Black Bedroom Furniture: 3 Rules of Room Preparation Before Arranging the Furniture

Black is a strong and powerful theme. It conveys sheer elegance and formality. But at the same time, black also signifies mourning and gloominess. Black is mysterious and can be easily misunderstood, so be careful when you’re planning to integrate a black theme in your bedroom.

People say the bedroom should reflect your personality. It is your own space so you should feel most comfortable and relaxed here than any part of the house. With this in mind, using black bedroom furniture raises a major concern: Will black furniture make your room too dark and depressing? Who would want to stay in a room that can only make you feel unhappy?

Rule #1: Do not over do it!

So first, let’s uncover the first rule when it comes to using black bedroom furniture in your bedroom. Do not overdo it! Black furniture along with black curtains, black flooring and black walls are too dark, obviously. Oh please, you are not creating a dungeon, you know.

Rule #2: Flourescent/Overly Colors Are A No-No!

Second, do not use fluorescent/neon colors or overly bright colors. The main reason here is because the contrast created by the mixture of tropical materials and colors and black furniture is too divergent. It simply does not fit as regards to layout and color scheme of the room. This can totally wipe away the elegance of black bedroom furniture pieces in your room no matter how expensive they are.

However, if you really want to add a dash of perky shade, paint one wall in any bright color and make this your room’s focal point. Additional accents should complement the shade of your chosen bright paint. Another option is to use a wall paper made with natural fiber to add texture. But remember, choose neutral and simple shade and pattern.

Rule #3: Use Neutral Colors as Background!

The two rules give birth to rule no. 3. Select colors that play well off the black bedroom furniture. Avoid sharp contrasts. If you want tranquillity and relaxation, choose neutral colors, beige and tan to create contrast without the overkill.

Let’s Talk About Walls, Doors and Windows

Your main purpose should be this: To make the furniture pieces stand out. Make these elegant pieces catch the attention. Keep in mind that you won’t get this effect if the walls are painted too colourful or if the black furniture goes unnoticed because the walls are painted too dark. Re-paint your walls with a neutral color: white, cream, beige or tan before bringing black furniture pieces into the room. Moreover, balance out the energy using the natural light and artificial lighting arrangements.

But then again, if you think you want to push the black theme a little bit more, you can paint the door black or one side of the wall. But that’s it.

Black bedroom furniture can make your room a sanctuary for relaxation, as long as you follow these simple rules before bringing in and arranging the furniture pieces.
