How Is Wind Energy Transferred Into Electricity With a Renewable Energy System?

Renewable energy sources that do not have an impact on global warming are in very high demand. One way of creating clean energy, or energy that does not take a toll on our resources and the environment, is with collecting power from the wind. This source is seeing a high demand.

When our sun warms the earth, it does so unevenly. This creates the air movement that we know of as wind. The kinetic energy that this results in can be harvested using turbines. When wind blows on the turbine blades, it causes the blades to turn. This creates mechanical energy which can be converted into electricity with the use of a generator.

The most common type of turbine is shaped like the propeller on an airplane. This is known as a horizontal axis turbine. Vertical axis wind turbines are also used, however not nearly as often, and have blades that run from top to bottom.

The blades of the turbine must be faced into the wind to be effective. They are connected to a drive shaft inside the system. When the blades turn, they turn a drive shaft which runs the generator. The end result is usable electricity.

A single small wind turbine system can provide enough power for a business or single home. Systems that are intended to provide more power are known as wind farms. These include many larger turbines that are spread out and collect enough for the electrical grid.

When the wind does not blow, power cannot be generated with this method. Considering this, is not always a reliable method for electricity, but it is a way to create clean, pollution free energy. There are no harmful emissions and it is friendly to our environment as well. It is not an inexpensive way to create electricity, and still must compete with the traditional use of fossil fuels. I have personally managed to build my own home DIY renewable energy system by following an online system which you can find out more about at my website link below.
