VIVOTEK IP8332 Review
VIVOTEK is a Taiwanese company which has a leading position in the IP video surveillance market. It is listed in the Taiwan Stock Exchange and its business development has allowed it to open an office in California. VIVOTEK offers wide-range IP camera products at competitive prices. The peculiar thing about their products is that they embody functions that other manufacturers do not include in their IP cameras of the same price range as VIVOTEK’s and that is what makes VIVOTEK a popular manufacturer of budget IP surveillance products.
Introduction- Our next camera to be reviewed is VIVOTEK IP8332! It differs from its IP8330 counterpart only in that it has a Megapixel image quality which together with the IR-cut filter, as we will see later, makes all the difference compared to IP cameras that do not possess these two features. Naturally VIVOTEK designed the camera to meet the outdoor surveillance needs of both the ordinary consumer, and the enterprise – it is “a best-in-class, bullet-style network camera designed for diverse outdoor applications” as the manufacturer put it the product’s web page. Adding the ease of installation to that and the camera can be considered in any outdoor video surveillance strategy!

Hardware- The IP camera has a solid, weather-proof IP66 rated housing which means it can withstand water coming to it from every direction. This guarantees that it will survive harsh weather conditions as torrent rain! Camera front close-up
Installation and network deployment- The camera can be mounted on a wall or the ceiling. You can find detailed hardware installation instructions with accompanying pictures in the Manual! As previously mentioned, IP8332 connects to devices as sensors and alarms via the Terminal Block. In the Manual you can find instructions on how to connect it to these types of devices. The camera is Power-over-Ethernet compliant which saves you an installation of a separate power cable. You can use a P-o-E-enabled switch or a P-o-E Power Injector together with non-P-o-E switch to do supply electricity though the Ethernet! The Installation Wizard 2 is part of the software that comes with the camera! After you start it, you just need to confirm the camera’s MAC address and it is ready for use! There are a few protocols that you can set the camera to use for image transmission over the network, like UDP, TCP, HTTP or HTTPS. Again the Manual well describes how and when you should use each of them! You can set up a DDNS if your IP address is a dynamic one! The software helps you register in Safe100.net and get a virtual static address from there through which you can remotely access the camera from any PC or phone that is connected to the web. You can automatically or manually create a self-signed Security Certificate to use it for authentification with the SSL!
Connectivity- The indented Reset button helps you restore the initial camera’s settings in case you forget your password or the camera freezes, or when there is a problem with IP address assignment! The Terminal IO Block helps you connect the camera to an alarm or a sensor and that way a warning is generated or the alarm is triggered when an intruder comes within the camera’s range! In the User Manual you will find the connection method of the Terminal Block.
Operation at night- The IR-cut filter is engaged through the software that comes with the package, automatically or manually! When turned on during the day, the camera streams in black and white and while on during the night, the IR functions as a real one! Performance- VIVOTEK IP8332 has clear live streaming due to its megapixel resolution. We only noticed some lag during the night stream! The camera can use the H.264, the best industry video compression for megapixel image quality! It successfully manages to strongly squeeze the enormous data so it can occupy only some small space on a NVR or other recording device! Practical features- One of them is Triple-window video motion detection. It allows you to set up at most three zones for motion detection. This is especially helpful when you want to monitor different objects based on their size and speed of movement. Apart from that the software allows for up to 10 people to monitor simultaneously the images from the camera which means that you can share the video stream with people that are close to you, for example with your relatives. Another helpful feature is that you can get event notifications via HTTP, SMTP or FTP i.e. you can view them in the browser, receive them in your e-mail or see them stored in a server. The free software that comes with the camera supports up to 32 IP cameras. That way you can buy more VIVOTEK cameras and use the same software to access their streams. The Multiple Streams feature allows for simultaneous image viewing at three types of devices on three image formats – MPEG-4, MJPEG and H.264, the first for a 3G phone and the last two – for PC. On a PC you can watch the stream not only from a browser but also on RTSP players like Quick Time Player and Real Player. The availability of a MicroSD/SDHC memory card slot allows you to shift the image recording to the memory card in case you have a thin bandwidth! You can then insert the card in a memory card reader and view the recording on a PC! An 8 GB memory card will store enough data for a day, in H.264 compression format! IP8332 possesses Tamper Detection which allows for it to detect and respond when it is redirected, defocused, blocked or spray-printed. This makes it a suitable camera for tampering-prone places like transportation stations, prisons or security locations. For personal security enhancement the manufacturer offers the following features: Multi-level user access with password protection – you can set up which person will be an administrator, Operator or Viewer! Since you have the access to that menu, you are the Administrator IP address filtering – you can limit the access to the camera to certain IP addresses which provides the necessary security from outside intruders! HTTPS encrypted data transmission – a secure way for data transmission which keep the data protected while it passes the different network devices on its way to the recipient.
Conclusion- VIVOTEK IP8332 providing the all the necessary features for any outdoor environment at a very acceptable price VIVOTEK IP8332 stands out as an invaluable part of any IP video surveillance system, be it home or corporate. With IP8332 you can quickly and easily monitor your backyard, front door or any outside premises. The megapixel resolution gives you clear, detailed videos and the price is really competitive for the features you get – with no competition among the cameras with similar feature sets. Other model from this line is IP8330.
