Many piano players dream of developing lightning fast finger movement. Learning how to play piano fast is a skill that many should learn. It takes lots of practise and hard work. As we learn how to play piano, we will notice that not all of our fingers are as nimble as the others.
For me personally, I find that my little finger and the one next to it, aren’t as nimble as the other three on both hands. I am finding that my thumb and index finger are the most nimble of the five fingers on each hand. The middle finger is the next most nimble finger. The most likely reason for this is because people tend to use the thumb and index finger more in day to day activities.
Unless you are one of those people that like to do everything with their last two fingers you aren’t going to be nimble in that area of the hand. Try this exercise for yourself.
Exercise:
Hover your fingers over a flat surface. Tap down on the surface with your little finger. Next, tap down on the surface with the finger next your little finger. Repeat the tapping of your little finger and the finger next to it. Keep tapping as fast as possible. Now, try doing the same exercise with your thumb and index fingers. What did you find?
You will notice that your last two fingers are a little bit uncoordinated. Trying doing the same exercise on your non-preferred hand. You will notice it is even harder to do. If you keep performing these finger tapping exercises everyday, you will start to develop lightning fast finger movement.
Learning how to play piano takes like of time and practise. Work on improving your finger speed by following the exercise I just mentioned.
With plenty of practise and hard work, the last two fingers on each hand can be trained to be just as fast as your thumb and index fingers. Your middle finger can also be trained to tap down faster. Remember that you must train both the left and right hands. Focusing on just one hand will cause your finger speeds to be unbalanced. Both hands need to be able to play the piano as fast as each other. Playing the piano fast is similar to typing quickly. Through muscle memory the fingers just play faster and faster.
Muscles throughout our body are made up of fast twitch and slow twitch type fibers. You can easily guess from the names that you would want more fast twitch fibers in your muscles so that you can move your fingers faster. If a muscle is made up of more fast twitch fibers over slow twitch ones then it will be able to move faster than one that is more equally balanced.
Developing fast twitch fibers in our muscles is done through constant training of the muscles to move fast. We need to keep moving our fingers quickly while we are practising how to play piano faster.
Remember to use a metronome to ensure that you are playing at a correct tempo. In most cases when we are playing the piano pieces very quickly, our tempo goes off a bit. A metronome can ensure that we are playing at the right tempo.
You will need to stretch out your fingers before and after piano practise. Stretch each of your fingers by interlocking them and pushing out forward on both sides. Stretching helps keeps the muscles loose and in effect makes your fingers move faster.
In conclusion, learning how to play piano so that we can develop lightning fast finger movement has been discussed in this article. Lots of practise is needed to develop the speed that we need to play piano fast.
