Have you ever imagined how the grains that we cook as food in our houses are cultivated? It is not as easy as it seems to be. A large number of farm machinery and equipment are involved in the entire process. The machinery and equipment differ according to the process and environment in which it is being used for crop cultivation. Industrial revolution saw the development of most of this different farming machinery. Decades back people used traditional manual methods of farming before these machinery were invented.
Let’s take a brief look at the various kinds of machinery that are used in the farming process:
Seeders-
This forms the base of any cultivation process. Seeds are spread in to the ground using seeders.
Irrigation-
Various methods of irrigation are being followed. Pumps, tubing and sprayers are usually used for irrigation purposes. Sprinkler pumps are also available for irrigation purposes. When the cultivation is being done on small lands watering cans are usually used.
Tractors-
The biggest of all the farm machinery are the tractors. They are usually used for pulling or drawing heavy objects and also for towing. The main purpose of tractors is for landscaping. Usually compact utility tractors are used for land management purposes. Smaller kinds of tractors such as the garden tractors are used for the purpose of fertilizing and also for trimming and cutting the grasses.
Seed Drill-
Tractors usually pull these Seed Drills. The purpose of a Seed Drill is to plant vegetable seeds and food grains. The drills dig the holes for drilling the seeds and then covering them with soil. Initially the seeds were thrown manually and many of them never yielded in to crops. But the drill ensured all the seeds yielded into crops.
Combine-
In the olden days combine was carried around by horses. But nowadays it has been coupled with tractor. Cleaning, picking and harvesting are the main functionalities of a combine. It is also used for separation.
Chisel Plough-
It is another kind of farming equipment that is used to prepare the ground for cultivation purposes. It is also used for mixing the surface residue and soil which act as manure to the crops.
Row planter-
It is the equipment used to spread seeds in rows. The tractor pulls it along the fields and during this process the seeds get embedded in to the soil.
Sprayers-
Sprayers are regularly used to spray the fertilizers or pesticides on the crops or any other kind of pest control. Tractor sprayers are available which can be used to distribute the liquid in the sprayer at a very high speed.
