I’ve been to many Mind, Body, Spirit events and you will see banners with the term “Natural Medium” on a regular basis. This usually leads to a good few jokes where people introduce themselves as “Mildred Bloggs, unnatural Medium.” Resulting in lots of giggles, not all of them kind, and a “Natural Medium” with a face like a smacked butt.
So what is a Natural Medium?
Any human being for whom the ability surfaces. It is not possible to be an unnatural Medium for the simple reason that the ability is natural. No matter whether you have seen Spirit since you were in nappies/diapers or the ability surfaced in later life it is all completely natural.
Should everyone work as a Medium?
The answer to that is no. If you suffer from any physical illness Mediumship work can be very draining, so find a highly experienced working Medium and get some advice.
If you suffer from mental illness the answer is almost certainly no. Not through any sense of prejudice but because Mediumship is done with the mind and trying to work with a broken mind is exactly the same as trying to lift with a broken arm. This doesn’t mean no forever, it means no as long as the mental challenges carry on. If you’re medicated for life then it might be wise to avoid this work altogether. Again, take as much advice as you can from other Mediums and most importantly from the medical profession before you even consider trying the work.
The other use of the word ‘natural’ is as in gifted, and that’s another kettle of fish altogether.
There are Mediums who are naturally gifted but I know quite a few of them and they still have challenges within the work. Mediumship work is like any other job you can have bad days and you just have to get over them. I always say that you’ll know if you’re a true Medium if – after your first really bad message – it doesn’t occur to you to give up.
It’s actually best not to think in terms of gifts because the work is so subjective and the detractors are so many it’s far better to be the sort of person who does their best, trusts their beliefs, and keeps plodding along doing what they believe in. You can place one brilliant message, one mediocre one and a really bad one all in the space of 10 minute and you never know until you’ve finished how good or bad a message will be. You’re only as good as the next message.
To train or not to train?
It is a natural ability but you will benefit considerably from good training by other experienced Mediums. Many people train in local circles and I’ve seen some stupendous Mediums rise from that kind of work, however, when you sit in circle you get to know your fellow members very well and it won’t take long before you know exactly who they have in the Spirit World. As such I would strongly recommend that you do some national training with a large group of strangers, that way you will be sure that you can get accurate information for someone you’ve never met. It helps with confidence.
Who is the best?
All Mediums work differently and there is no wrong or right, but if you train with a large organisation that has a clear ethos and many tutors you will be presented with a variety of information for you to consider. You will also benefit from their experience.
Is it scary?
Not at all, it’s wonderful, but you do need support and I would never recommend that you decide you’re a Medium, set up an evening or put out an advert for clients and just start working. That way lies trouble! There are laws, we are subject to them, and you need guidance.
Unless of course you tangle with the detractors. You will find that people are far more frightening that Spirit people and you must be prepared to deal with this. It’s quite fair that someone who has never experienced what we have cannot begin to credit it, but some people will be very rude and you can’t change that.
It’s best not to argue, just say that you respect their opinion, and get the heck out of there as quickly as possible. If you’re wanting to change the world you will very quickly exhaust yourself, and it isn’t your place.
Conclusion
- If you’re a Medium the ability is natural.
- No one can dictate whether you’re good or bad except your audiences.
- You should seek proper training and be covered by insurance, it’s unprofessional not to.
- You work for people, put them first and be considerate in your work.
- Don’t work if you’re not well.
- If you’ve been diagnosed with a mental health issue talk to your doctor.
- The voices we talk to never and I mean never suggest violence or harm, if you’re hearing voices that do go straight to your doctor.
- There is a lot of jealousy in the field, work to the highest standards of integrity, honesty and kindness and let your audience do the judging.
I hope some of that helps.
