5 Pros and Cons of Sedo

I have been using Sedo to sell my domains for quite some time now. Sedo definitely has its strengths and weaknesses and as excellent source to start your online money making:

The Good

1. Popularity: Probably Sedo’s strongest point is the amount of users that go through it on a daily basis. Sedo is by far one of the most well known domain reselling sites on the web and is a great place to get your feet wet.

2. Ease Of Use: You can’t get much easier than Sedo as far as setting up your auction. All you need to do is type in your domain name, set a category, set a price and you are good to go.

3. Free Parking: Sedo does offer free parking for your domains as you try and sell them. Other sites such as Go Daddy force users to pay a monthly fee in order to park there.

4. Features: There are some nice features that I have found in Sedo that I don’t see in other auction sites. One of the nice things about Sedo is it actually shows you how many views your auction has gotten and how much your parked page is earning you. It is simple and quick to find exactly what you are looking for.

5. Premium Auctions: The last thing I really like about Sedo is that periodically they hold premium auctions. The nice thing about these is that you don’t have to pay to get into them, you just need to be approved.

The Bad

1. Price: The one thing that I really don’t like about Sedo is the amount they charge per auction. You can list your domain or site for free but if sold they take a 10% cut of the sale price with a minimum of $50.

2. Parking Revenue: It might just be me but I have seen a significant drop in my revenue from parking. I have been hearing all over the industry that parking seems to be down in general.

3. Auction: The one thing I really don’t like about Sedo is you can’t put your domain directly to auction. Someone has to first give you an offer than you can accept that offer or put it to auction after that.

4. Search Interface: I don’t like the way the search interface looks for Sedo. It reminds me of a cheap site that was put together very sloppily. It works decently but the overall look and feel of the domain search isn’t that great to me.

5. Visitors To Your Site Stat: This isn’t that big of a deal but it would be nice if Sedo could track the number of visitors to your site even if it isn’t parked using Sedo. Currently this stat will only work if you are using Sedo to park your domain.

So overall I have had an enjoyable experience using Sedo. The biggest plus to using it is just the shear amount of people that look on this site. It has its weaknesses but honestly what site is perfect. I would advise that if you are going to use Sedo to use a couple of other domain auction sites as well. Test them out and see which one you like. A couple other good ones are GoDaddy, Moniker, and SnapNames.
