The Magic of Covert Hypnosis Half One – Induction Scripts

The Magic of Covert Hypnosis Part One – Induction Scripts

Induction is best described as the road to hypnosis, the process by which the Hypnotist guides the subject into the hypnotic state. Without this process, hypnosis is almost impossible to achieve, and therefore, nobody can get away with trying to skip this step. There are hundreds of types of inductions and each technique depends on the human factor. Some of the induction techniques are such a natural process that you could slip into a trance without even being aware of it, like when driving a car or while watching a movie.

Before beginning the process of hypnosis, it is important to identify the purpose or end goal of the exercise. This is because the type of induction chosen is generally fitted to the end aim of the hypnosis.

Anyone who is interested in hypnosis can try it at home. It is easy to achieve with practice and you can use some easy induction scripts like a slow countdown where you encourage your subject to relax more and more as the numbers get smaller and smaller. The stair induction script is a slight variation where your subject imagines walking down a staircase and feels more relaxed as you count down on the numbers of stairs remaining.

Going back to the times of Freud, you can borrow some old but by no means obsolete techniques of induction. These can be techniques we encounter in popular literature such as progressive muscle relaxation and the swinging watch induction.

This kind of induction is rather dramatic, but easy to learn. The hypnotist suddenly distracts the subject during a normal conversation and uses the momentary confusion to talk him into a trance. While extremely easy, this technique is not very popular with clinical hypnotists for there is often the risk of the subject stepping out of the trance as quickly as he entered it.

Usually, this type of script is used for people who are afraid to go into trance, or who find it difficult to relax. The Breathing Affirmation Technique uses the subject’s natural biological relaxation machinations to help him relax while the abstractness of the Deep Blue Induction method has been found very effective for people who are afraid to let go mentally.

Visualization induction scripts rely heavily on the visualization process where the hypnotist encourages the subject to visualize a relaxing setting and deepens the trance by describing the scene in more and more appealing terms. Since visualization requires the subject to disassociate from his current surroundings, this can be a very effective induction technique when used correctly.
