How you can Promote A Screenplay – Have a Excessive High quality, Industrial Screenplay

How to Sell A Screenplay – Have a High Quality, Commercial Screenplay

Want to know how to sell a screenplay? A screenplay is a blueprint of the story they are trying to tell. To an actor, it’s a record of all the things that a character will say and a guide on how to play that character. It is vitally important that you understand the basics of marketing a screenplay and why they are so essential to having success in this business.

This is not a business of wish fulfillment. If you want to get something accomplished, you must have a plan to go about it getting it done. Below are several strategies that you can use to help jump-start the marketing of your screenplay:

If you really want to understand how to sell a screenplay, I cannot stress enough how important this strategy is, as it is the cornerstone of every other action you are going to undertake regarding your screenplay. Knowing how to sell a screenplay is as simple as understanding this one thing – if your writing is not of a high enough quality, no matter how large your efforts are, or how many of them you undertake, to market your screenplay, you will not be able to sell it.

In addition to needing a high quality script in order to be able sell a screenplay, you also need one that is commercial – remember, this is a business, which means that there has to be a reason for someone to spend money on buying your screenplay. For a first time writer, I would strongly suggest trying to avoid submitting an “indie” style script – your autobiographical movie about growing up in a small town and conquering your fear of clowns may be a great script, but a producer is always thinking of screenplays in terms of “Who is going to pay to see this?” We are not recommending that you stop writing these kinds of scripts, by any means – just wait till you build up more influence in the industry after selling a few screenplays, at which point, you will find that it is far easier to sell a screenplay to a producer.

Also, one other thing to keep in mind is that the more expensive your screenplay is, the less likely it is to get made, so keep your budget reasonable! First time screenwriters do not get to make 200 million dollar movies, because you don’t have a proven track record yet – like it or not, that’s just the way the business is, and you’ll have to play along with it if you want to succeed and understand how to sell a screenplay.

There are several ways that you can evaluate how strong your script is:

– Submit your screenplay to a high quality coverage service (do your research here – there are tons of scam artists)

– Enter high quality screenplay contests (ones whose winners have actually SOLD scripts and have industry connections)

– Read professionally produced screenplays of great films and try to draw comparisons between that work and your own

– After you have done all of those things, use them to create an overall “market response” to your script, and this will help you figure out how to sell your screenplay.
