Building a Blog For Profit – 3 Steps to Success

Blogs are hot right now. Unless you have been hiding under a rock, and even then you probably know what a blog is. My favorite blog platform is WordPress. WordPress is my favorite because everything I would ever want to do with a website is possible using the WordPress platform and 3rd party plug-ins. There are plug-ins for seo, plug-ins to engage the reader, plug-ins for advertising, the list is extensive. If that were not compelling enough, there are tens of thousands of free themes out there to make your blog unique and beautiful. I promised you three simple steps to making money with blogs, so let’s get to it.

Step one is picking a topic for your blog. Most people go with their passion because they can talk about it at length and not get tired of it. I say great but make sure that other people are interested in your topic also. Use your keyword tool of choice (Google’s external keyword tool is great for this) and input your site’s topic to see the monthly search volume. If it is fewer than 10,000 searches per month, you might want to rethink the topic. There is also a spot that shows advertiser competition. If it is high, there is money to be made, a very good sign.

Step two is setting up your blog. If you have a modern hosting package, you will already have a way to install your blog in minutes. If your host has cPanel, you are set. If not, use their live chat and ask them to setup your blog. Once the blog is setup, go find some nice themes for it. Do not use the default theme. It is ugly and not setup for making money. Download the right plug-ins for seo and advertising and you are good to go.

Step three is populating your blog with content. If you selected a topic that reflects your passion, this will be easy. If you selected a topic that will make you money and you don’t know much about your subject, go and search article directories for articles on your topic. Most will allow you to republish their content if you keep the author’s links intact. Yes, it is a good trade-off. Finally, you can outsource the content creation. There are many writers out there who would love to write content for you.
